Our Story
Formed in 2002 at Sarah Lawrence College, The Congregation started as a five-piece band intending to play a one-time show. The overwhelmingly positive response and astounding amount of enthusiasm they received from the crowd inspired them to continue working together to replicate the incredible energy of that experience.
That five person group, originally known as The Stevie Wonder Cover Band, has now expanded into the 10+ member group complete with keyboards, bass, drums, percussion, guitar, horns, strings and four exuberant lead singers.
The Congregation has appeared at numerous venues in and around NYC such as, The Zipper Theater, The Belt Theater, and The Alamo in Yonkers, NY. Opening for artists such as Gene Gray and the amazing Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, as well as playing a host of shows at Wesleyan College, and Sarah Lawrence College, The Congregation has been busy keeping audiences in the positive.
